A Filipino app-based shuttle service U-Hop won the Asia's largest tech convention in the Tech in Asia, which was held recently in Jakarta, Indonesia. U-Hop won the Final Arena battle on Prestigious Tech in Asia 2015 . Seven companies and startup from different parts of Asia was invited to the convention to present their business idea.

Seven companies and startup from different parts of Asia was invited to the convention to present their business idea.
The two-day conference of Tech in Asia is done three times a year in Singapore, Tokyo and Jakarta. Including Tech in Asia the biggest conference in the Asia and organized for tech ecosystem of the region. Entrepreneur, investors, media and developers joined forces together to showcase new work applications and technology and how it helps people. This is also the opportunity to talk with the investors and startup companies.
Among the partner of Tech in Asia are huge and well respected company like Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Samsung.
Prior to such conferences, Tech in Asia scour the whole Asian region to select the top 10 startup company who will battle for the final Arena, which each participant will be given only five minutes to explain their respective business concept and additional five minutes to answer the questions of the jury.

The companies who joined the app-based startup battle were Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, Vietnam, Japan and the Philippines. These countries were already screened by the three judges who has an extensive experience in capital venture. They are Stefan Jung- managing partner of Venturra Capital, Michael Lints-venture partner at Golden Gate Ventures and Teddy Himler- Vice President of Soft Bank china & India Holdings.
During the presentation, Marvin dela Cruz- CEO and Founder of U-Hop showcase that they are the first app-based mass transport system in the Philippines offering cheap, reliable and security of their systems because of KYC (Know Your Customer) being implemented before the applicant will be a full member. With U-Hop, there is no need to stand in line and wait long hours, as U-Hop will take you on your work, school and back to your home.
"The U-Hop is better than the others because we think the interest of the passengers who cannot afford a taxi. So we've made cheaper fares." explained by Dela Cruz.
He also added saying, "The U-Hop is about goodness, understanding and innovation, The U-Hop has the heart to change and how to commute the public. A heart to give good service. Having to wait two hours for vehicles and not have to pay dearly.
Another service U-Hop has to offer is On Demand which commuters wont be charge double or triple and no add ons fare. U-Hop has a good intention for the environment because a single U-Hop van could carry up to fifteen passengers compared to other app-based transport that only carry a single commuter and worsen the traffic problem.
After the presentation of Dela Cruz about the concept and purpose of U-Hop, the three juries made their unanimous decision and proclaimed U-Hop to be the champion for Startup Arena.

This is a great honor for the country because U-Hop is the only Filipino company to be chosen to fight in the arena. U-Hop is also the first Filipino company to won the prestigious competition in the history. U-Hop won the prize value of $10,000 that will serve as an extra fund to begin the U-Hop service in providing solutions to chronic traffic problem in the Philippines.
According to Teddy Himler, U-Hop meet all the criteria and addressed what the other competitors cannot offered.The Jury also noticed the rapid growth of the business. After winning the prize, companies and investors expressed interest to be a local partner of U-Hop in their place. Singapore will be the host country for the next season of Tech in Asia.
