The three US-based players joined billiards prodigy Chezka Centeno and gymnast Reyland Capellan in bagging the five gold medals of the Philippines on Tuesday.
Caleb Stuart sparked the five-gold medal haul of the Philippines with his record-shattering win at the National Stadium in Singapore. The 24-year-old athlete from Riverside, California made a 65.53 meters attempt and broke the SEA Games record previously held by Thailand’s Tantipong Phetchaiya (62.23m) set in the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar.
Sprinters Eric Cray and Kayla Richardson swept the centerpiece 100-meter event as the country past Burma (Myanmar) in the medal tally with 12 gold medals, 17 silver and 29 bronze medals.
Eric Cray topped the men’s 100m in 10.25 seconds while Kayla Richardson, who debuted on the international stage also won the gold medal as she nipped Thailand’s Tassaporn Wannakit in a photo-finish after both clocked 11.76 seconds. The bronze medal was awarded to Singapore’s Veronica Pereira (11.88) in the women’s 100m.
