MANILA, Philippines – Administration candidate Manuel Roxas has instructed the Liberal Party to look into the incident in his sortie in Pikit, North Cotabato, which showed the emcee distributing envelopes to the audience for their loud cheering.
"Mariin ko pong kinokondena itong mga gawain na ito," Roxas said on Monday (April 18). "Hindi ito kasama sa ating plataporma, programa, at gawain."
"Hindi ko pa nakikita ang video, pero kung nangyari nga ito, aalamin natin kung sino ‘yung mga organizers dito at paparatingin natin ‘yung ating pananaw na hindi tama ito at dapat itigil ito,” he added.
The 58-second video, posted by a certain “KutangBato Vlogger” on Facebook, was circulated over the weekend.
It showed the emcee telling the audience that those who would not cheer loudly for Roxas and running mate Leni Robredo would not get envelopes.
The alleged envelope-distribution happened shortly before Roxas and his running mate, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, arrived at the venue of his sortie in the town of Pikit, North Cotabato, last March.
North Cotabato 1st District Rep. Jesus Sacdalan, under whose jurisdiction Pikit is located, also spoke about the video
"Gusto kong linawin ang isyu ng video kung saan nagbitiw ng hindi magandang biro ang emcee tungkol sa mga envelope. Walang basehan ang birong ito at hindi ito ayon sa sinusundan naming patakaran. We do not engage in that kind of politics,” he said in a statement.
