The Filipina singer was the chosen by the Disney Channel to sing the English language version of its Princess franchise theme song. Aside from Sarah, singers from Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia will give their own rendition of “The Glow” in their own languages. “Sobrang happy. Overflowing ang joy sa puso ko ngayon. Especially nakikita ko na nakalatag na ang boses ko sa video.
The first time na napanood ko ‘yon, teary-eyed nga ako….surreal nga,” said Sarah in an interview aired recently on TV Patrol. “Maraming, maraming salamat sa Disney for the chance and of course, it’s an honor to represent our country. Ni-localize nila ang project na ito.” The Voice of the Philippines coach was handpicked to record her own version of the song originally performed by British singer Shannon Saunders. “The Glow” was originally created in 2011 in time for the addition of Rapunzel (from the 2010 animated film Tangled) as the 10th Disney Princess character. The music video of “The Glow” debuted on the Disney Channel last December 6.
How was the ABS-CBN singer-actress tapped for this project? The recording artist is vaguely aware of the details. “Yung proseso, di masyadong na-hype sa akin nung Viva. Parang surprise nila sa akin. Parang two days before or one day before the recording, sinabi nila sa akin… ‘Disney? Wow!’” When asked if she has a specific Disney princess that she idolizes or greatly admires, Sarah replied, “Actually, all-time favorite ko Cinderella, Snow White and now, may Rapunzel na. Actually, itong song nito was created para sa coronation ceremony ni Rapunzel in 2011.” Did you ever dream of singing a Disney theme song?
The Popstar Princess disclosed, “Oo naman… Nung bata, lahat naman yata fantasy ‘to ng little girls, yung maging Disney princess ka. “Tapos nung na-discover ko na sa sarili ko na I want to be a singer, a professional singer, I also dreamed of becoming part of this kind of project – na singing a theme song for Disney.” She added with a laugh: “Pero sabi masyadong mataas yun… parang kailangan maging sing-galing ni Ms. Lea Salonga and now, si Ms. Rachel Ann Go…she did the Little Mermaid in the Philippines.
Grabe talaga. Sobrang nakakatuwa at di makapaniwala.” What else does the young diva want to achieve? The 26-year-old singer became thoughtful and simply pointed out, “Gusto ko pang magrecord pa ng sarili kong kanta… I think yun ang kailangan ng OPM, ng original hits. Yung talagang i-represent yung country natin internationally using our own music talaga… di lang nagko-cover lang tayo. Yun talaga ang dream ko para sa OPM industry.” What is the main message of “The Glow”?- Pep
